Visualizing the Prophets
We as Christians often approach the Old Testament prophets looking for abstract theological truths and constructs which we have learned through systematic theological books or in Bible school or seminary. However, as we read them, we often find ourselves very lost and wondering how this equals that. The key lays in methodology. The OT prophets had a different pedagogical means for teaching God’s people his law & will and calling them to repentance, faith, and a life of good works. They used the physical world in which they lived, to paint incredible visual images in the minds of their audience to teach them about their God and to call them to faith & obedience.
